SBK Sportsbook came to Colorado in June 2020 with an approach to the sports betting business that is unique in at least two ways.
Most notably, SBK Sportsbook Colorado is powered by longstanding betting exchange Smarkets and is therefore able to offer odds that often undercut the competition by a significant margin. Many sportsbooks make similar such claims, but SBK Sportsbook actually does deliver in that regard. More on that shortly.
The other thing that makes SBK Sportsbook different than most betting sites is its social aspect. SBK includes a strong social component in which bettors share tips, showcase their hot streaks, compete for leaderboard bragging rights and follow one another. As SBK puts it, bettors can “follow the biggest winners, losers or just your friends.”
- Visit SBK Sportsbook online: GetSBK.com
- Mobile apps available for: iOS and Android
- Colorado licensing status: Approved
- Can I bet on Colorado college games at SBK? Yes. Colorado law allows licensed sports betting operators to accept wagers on all college games.
- Who’s allowed bet online at SBK Sportsbook? Customers 21 and older may sign up from anywhere but must be located within CO state lines to place wagers.
- Land-based casino partner: Full House Resorts, parent company of Bronco Billy’s Casino
SBK Colorado Bonus
While SBK Sportsbook mostly crushes the competition in terms of betting odds, it is not a promotional-heavy sportsbook by any stretch. The true value of SBK Sportsbook is definitely found within the betting odds rather than in the new customer bonus.
Bettors in the market for a larger bonus should consider BetRivers or DraftKings, which both offer bonuses worth up to $250 and $1,000, respectively. However, sports fans who anticipate placing bets on a regular basis should still consider SBK because the competitive odds are likely to provide more value than any bonus would over the long run.
New Customers: $20 Cash Refund on Losses
New bettors who sign up for an account with SBK Sportsbook and make a first deposit of at least $20 will have their first $20 in losses refunded as withdrawable cash.
This bonus is quite a bit smaller than those offered by other CO sportsbooks, but its one saving grace is that the first $20 of losses applies to all wagers placed within the first seven days of registration – it is not limited to the first bet like other offers of this type.
The two key things to know about this bonus are that bettors must wager an amount equal to the qualifying deposit within seven days of signing up and that any unused bonus credits must be placed within seven days of opening the account or else they will be forfeited.
The SBK Sportsbook Approach to Competitive Odds
SBK Sportsbook is able to offer some of the best odds in Colorado by drawing from the Smarkets exchange it operates outside the US. Smarkets has been in operation since 2010 outside the US, where it provides a form of peer-to-peer betting in which customers name their own prices and trade contracts with one another in lieu of placing wagers against the house.
Betting exchanges are popular for their ability to significantly reduce house commissions – every wager placed on an exchange is placed against another user who is taking the opposite position. Thus, the house has no interest in the outcome of any wager and can simply charge a small commission on every wager.
The one issue with exchange betting is that it can be confusing to new users and it requires a large customer base to provide liquidity for the markets. Both obstacles would be tough to overcome in a new market such as Colorado that is also limited in geographic reach – hence the launch of SBK Sportsbook.
SBK Colorado clears both obstacles by operating as a standard sportsbook but still pulling odds from Smarkets. The end result is bettors get the prices of a betting exchange wrapped in the familiarity of a standard online sportsbook.
This video from SBK explains the company’s general approach to sports betting in simple terms:
When comparing the odds offered by SBK Sportsbook against those offered by other sportsbooks, the difference is often striking. Below are three examples showing how SBK compared to two other Colorado sportsbooks.
MLS: Los Angeles FC vs. Houston Dynamo
NBA: Phoenix Suns vs. Washington Wizards
NBA: Orlando Magic vs. Brooklyn Nets
Sports Covered and Markets Offered by SBK Sportsbook
Colorado law permits licensed sportsbooks to offer wagers on a wide range of sports and leagues, and SBK takes advantage. SBK Sportsbook accepts wagers on US and international sports, including all the world’s major sports and a fair number of niche sports.
US coverage includes professional and college sports alike. This is all largely standard for major sportsbooks, but SBK’s coverage of esports is more in-depth than most others.
- Aussie Rules
- Ice Hockey
- Rugby League
- Rugby Union
- Snooker and Pool
- Table Tennis
The markets offered by SBK Sportsbook vary from event to event but overall the variety of wagers offered by SBK is comparable to that of Colorado’s major brand name providers. Some events are covered with 200+ markets, including the standard game outcome and point total bets plus props of all sorts, alternative lines and more.
SBK Mobile App Review
SBK Sportsbook is a mobile-exclusive sportsbook available for iOS and Android devices only. Currently, there is no option to bet online from a desktop through the SBK website.
iOS and Android users alike can visit GetSBK.com/us/ to download the official app. From there, iOS users are directed to the appropriate page in the App Store while Android users can download the .apk file directly from the SBK website.
The app follows standard navigation practices that make it easy find specific sports, leagues and account management options. Presentation is sleek and the use of “categories” pertaining to major tournaments or in-season leagues provides a clever way to direct users to the most popular events of the day.
Where SBK diverges from the usual mobile sportsbook app is in its inclusion of an entire social element and community found under the “tips” tab. Visiting that area brings users to a place where they can find follow other users, see who’s tips are on a hot streak, share tips, give feedback on tips and compete with friends for bragging rights.
Additionally, users can submit their own tips from within any betting market by tapping the “+tip” icon near the top of the page.
In-Play Betting Review
SBK Colorado maintains an active in-play betting calendar found under the “live” tab on the app homepage. Coverage of events is comparable to the other major brands, although during this review DraftKings Sportsbook and BetMGM each had one more live event in progress than did SBK. However, coverage of all the major US sports is thorough.
Market depth during in-play events is above average. The variety of wagers open during games often numbers in the dozens, even for smaller niche sports. During games, customers can bet on the final outcome along with all manner of props, alternate lines and stat totals.
Short-term wagers such as the outcome of the next at-bat or play drive are not offered here. Whereas DraftKings has “Flash” bets that are resolved within minutes, the vast majority of SBK’s in-play markets are resolved at the end of the game, half or period.
Live stats and data visualizations are provided for many in-play markets to give bettors a sense of what’s going on in real time.
SBK Sportsbook has a solid customer support infrastructure in place. Answers to many questions can be found in the large SBK Help Center within the app, but support reps can be reached via e-mail, phone, live chat and Twitter (@sbk).
SBK Sportsbook Colorado Deposit Methods
SBK Colorado currently accepts deposits via PayPal, Skrill and Wire transfer. For users who wish to use a credit or debit card, Skrill is the best option as it can be funded via those methods and others.
PayPal is a convenient option as well, but PayPal does not allow customers to deposit funds to gambling or betting sites that were uploaded via credit or debit card. To use PayPal with SBK or any other sportsbook, the PayPal account must be linked to the player’s personal bank account.
Here’s how SBK’s deposit methods compare:
|Wire Transfer||$20 for deposits less than $3,000; $0 for deposits of $3,000+||1-2 business days||$100/no max|
Colorado regulations require all licensed sportsbooks to support responsible gambling habits. Among other obligations, sportsbook operators must provide customers with the ability to self-exclude. SBK Sportsbook meets all regulations on that end and provides customers with several tools to manage their play.
- Deposit limits: Set a limit to the amount of money that may be deposited per day, week or month.
- Loss limits: Set a limit to the amount that may be lost in any single day, week, month or year.
- Time out: Disable access to SBK Sportsbook for 1, 7 or 31 days.
- Self-exclusion: Disable access to SBK Sportsbook for six months, one year or five years. Customers may contact customer support to self-exclude longer than five years or permanently. Once this decision is made, it cannot be undone under any circumstances.
- Disable withdrawal cancellation: By default, customers can cancel a withdrawal request while it is still pending. Activating this feature disables the ability to cancel a withdrawal request once it has been made.
