Monarch Casino Resort Spa in Black Hawk entered the Colorado sports betting market in May 2020 with the launch of the BetMonarch Sportsbook app for iOS and Android devices.
The BetMonarch app is managed in-house by Monarch Sportsbook and is powered by technology from the Stadium Technology Group, which is a Nevada-based technology and risk management services provider that powers a number of high-profile operators.
BetMonarch is not a particularly feature rich sportsbook compared to some of the heavy hitters in online betting, but it does offer some key advantages that may prove attractive to some customers.
In particular, BetMonarch lines tend to be very competitive if not the best in business for many games. In many cases, customers stand to win more or risk less when betting with BetMonarch than with other Colorado sportsbooks. The baseball lines are especially noticeable with 8-cent moneylines and 16-cent run lines offered by default.
Regular visitors to Monarch Casino in Black Hawk can also take advantage of an integrated loyalty program that combines in-person play with online wagers to earn comps and other perks.
BetMonarch could use deeper coverage of games, however, as many games are only covered with standard types of wagers while the competition often offers dozens if not 100+ markets per game.
- Visit BetMonarch online at: MonarchBlackHawk.com
- Mobile apps available for: iOS and Android
- Colorado licensing status: Approved
- Can I bet on Colorado college games at BetMonarch? Yes. The Colorado sports betting law permits licensed sportsbooks to accept wagers on college games.
- Who’s allowed to bet online at BetMonarch? Customers must be 21 or older and physically present within Colorado state lines. Residency is not required.
- Land-based casino partner: Monarch Casino Resort Spa in Black Hawk
BetMonarch does not yet offer a bonus for new customers, but there is reason to believe that may change. For one, BetMonarch asks all new customers for a promo code upon signing up even though there are no bonuses to claim at this point. The presence of a promo code field, however, indicates there may be plans to introduce a welcome offer at some point.
Furthermore, the Colorado sports betting landscape is only going to become increasingly competitive. State law fosters a competitive environment with more than 30 casinos that qualify to offer online betting.
As additional sportsbooks enter the space, bonuses and other benefits will play increasingly important roles in attracting new customers. Colorado does not require in-person registration as is the case in some other states, which in turn encourages mobile sportsbooks to compete with one another for customers across the entire state. No single sportsbook holds a major geographic advantage over another in Colorado, BetMonarch included.
Monarch Rewards Program
BetMonarch customers can enroll in the Monarch Rewards Program to earn benefits based on wagering and activity play, both online and in-person.
Wagers placed online through the BetMonarch app and in-person at Monarch Casino Back Hawk or Atlantis Casino in Reno, Nevada accumulate comp points and tier points that are used to level up through the VIP program.
Customers can sign up at MonarchRewards.com to track their play, participate in free contests online, manage spa reservations and more. The more wagers customers place with Monarch Rewards, the greater the benefits.
There are five tiers in the Monarch Rewards program that unlock increasingly valuable benefits. All customers automatically start out at the “Monarch” level with zero points and can move up through four additional levels to earn bigger and more frequent benefits.
Some of the more noteworthy perks include discounted hotel stays, free buffet access, comped meals and hotel rooms, invitations to premium sports events, invitations to parties and access to the VIP Lounge.
Sports Covered by BetMonarch Sportsbook
BetMonarch covers the largest pro and college sports in the US and abroad but its coverage is not as extensive as some of Colorado’s other sportsbook providers.
|Mixed Martial Arts||Tennis|
Customers can bet on the standard array of major US sports plus a smattering of international leagues such as English Premier League soccer. Betting options for individual games are likewise somewhat limited at present with the majority of wagers offered for games being standard moneylines, point spreads and totals.
However, we should note that BetMonarch launched during a strange period in the world of sports with most leagues either completely shut down or just barely beginning to reopen. As the sporting world returns to normal, we will revisit our BetMonarch review to see if more betting markets have been added.
BetMonarch Mobile App Review
The official BetMonarch mobile app is available for iOS and Android devices.
iOS Users: iOS users can find the official app by visiting the BetMonarch Sportsbook website and looking for the iOS download link or by launching the App Store and searching for “BetMonarch.”
Android Users: The Google Play store does not list sports betting apps, so Android users must visit the BetMonarch website to download the app directly.
In both cases, users are asked to begin by signing up for an account and providing basic personal information to verify each user’s age and identity as required by state law.
After registering and logging in, users are taken to a start page that lists popular upcoming events alongside navigation menus to view specific sports, adjust account settings, make deposits and initiate withdrawals.
Users who are completely new to mobile sports betting will find the app intuitive to use and navigate. One problem area we found was the app tends to hang at times when switching from one menu item to the next, which we solved by tapping anywhere on the screen to dismiss the loading icon.
Customer support is a mixed bag at BetMonarch currently. On one hand, it is easy to get ahold of the sportsbook manager for questions and answers related to wagering.
Users can tap the “support” icon near the bottom of the app to open a menu and then select “betting information” to visit the Monarch Casino Sportsbook website and send an e-mail to the sportsbook manager.
ColoradoBetting.com contacted the Monarch Sportsbook Manager with a question and received an answer that same day.
On the other hand, the app itself comes up short in not offering in-app support. There are no simple ways to submit a question or find a phone number – users must instead visit the BetMonarch website manually to find contact information.
Additionally, technical support for the app itself is lacking at the moment. When users select “contact info” from the BetMonarch menu, they are again taken to the Monarch Casino website where users are directed to contact Stadium (BetMonarch’s software partner) through the app. The one problem right now is there is no option to contact Stadium within the app.
BetMonarch Deposit Methods
BetMonarch only accepts deposits via two methods currently but says credit card functionality is coming soon as well. Currently, here’s how customers can fund their accounts:
- eCheck: Customers can deposit online via eCheck through the BetMonarch app. Users are asked to submit their Driver’s license information, banking information and an amount to deposit to transfer funds straight to BetMonarch.
- Cash at the Casino: Customers in the Black Hawk area can visit the retail sportsbook at Monarch Casino to fund their accounts with cash.
- Credit Cards: Coming soon.
BetMonarch accepts a minimum deposit of $40 and a minimum wager of $1 through the app.
Responsible Gambling does not seem to be a high priority at BetMonarch at this stage as there are no in-app options to set deposit limits, loss limits, time limits or to self-exclude. Selecting the responsible gambling menu item from within the app simply takes users to a responsible gaming page on the Colorado Gaming Association website.
