Risk Free First Bet up to $500

BetMGM Colorado is the product of Roar Digital, a joint venture between gaming giants MGM Resorts International and GVC Holdings. The group brought BetMGM Sportsbook to Colorado in early 2020 after acquiring the needed state licenses to launch a retail sportsbook and statewide mobile betting.

The BetMGM mobile app went live in Colorado in May 2020 as one of the state’s first authorized sportsbook providers. Now that we’ve had some time to give the app a test run for ourselves, we present today’s BetMGM review to report what it does well and where it could improve.

    Quick Reference

    • Visit BetMGM online at: www.betmgm.com
    • Mobile apps available for: iOS and Android
    • Colorado licensing status: Approved
    • Can I bet on Colorado college games at BetMGM? Yes. Under CO law, BetMGM may accept wagers on college games with the exception being a ban on prop bets involving college games.
    • Who’s allowed to bet online at BetMGM? BetMGM accepts customers 21 or older and who are physically located within state lines. Bettors from out of state may sign up for an account from outside state lines but must be located in CO when placing wagers.
    • Land-based casino partner: Midnight Rose Hotel & Casino

The people behind BetMGM come to Colorado representing a range of disciplines. On the MGM Resorts International side is a deep knowledge of the land-based gaming industry, including the management of retail sportsbooks.

Meanwhile, GVC Holdings provides the technical know-how needed to operate mobile sports betting as it is the company behind major international online gaming brands such as Party Poker and Bwin sports among others.

As such, both sides of the Roar Digital group are accustomed to operating in highly regulated jurisdictions. Security and fairness are not areas of concern, so the remainder of our BetMGM review will focus on the actual user experience. Below, readers can learn more about the BetMGM bonus, mobile betting apps, customer support, deposit methods and more.

    BetMGM Colorado Bonuses and Promotions

BetMGM bonuses often revolve customers receiving free bets, refunds, cash back on losing wagers and the occasional special such as paying bettors for every scoring play made by their team.

Below is a look at the BetMGM promos offered to new customers and an overview of the types of ongoing offers extended to existing customers.

New Customers: Risk Free First Bet up to $500

New customers who sign up for an account and deposit $10 or more qualify for a risk-free first wager. After signing up, users can place their first wager to claim this offer. If their first wager loses, BetMGM will refund that bet with up to $500 in free bets.

The free bets are rewarded in 10% denominations of the original bet amount. For example, a losing first wager of $150 is refunded with ten $15 free bets while a losing first wager of $300 is refunded with ten $30 free bets.

Important things customers should know: the free bets must be used within seven days and each bet can only be used in full. For example, if a customer uses a $15 free bet to place a $10 wager, the remaining $5 of that free bet will be forfeited. The bonus must be rolled over twice before withdrawal.

    Ongoing Promotions

BetMGM frequently launches new promotions for existing customers that are tailored to major events and the leagues that are in season. On any given week, BetMGM run multiple short-term promos that involve enhanced odds on select games, leaderboard contests for making smart picks and more.

A random sampling of recent promos hosted by BetMGM include fee bets for customers who wager $50 or more in a single week, parlay refunds for customers who miss a parlay by a single leg, 10% cash back on net losses for customers who had a bad week and one promo in which customers received a $3 bonus for every point scored by select players when wagering on NBA games.

The list of ongoing promotions is always changing, but customers can find what’s on offer any time by logging in to BetMGM.com or launching the mobile app.

    Sports Covered by BetMGM.com

BetMGM accepts wagers on an international variety of sports. This includes the major US pro and college leagues and events from around the world.

Sports covered by BetMGM throughout the year include:

    • Athletics
    • Aussie rules football
    • Baseball
    • Basketball
    • Boxing
    • Cricket
    • Cycling
    • Darts
    • Esports
    • Football
    • Golf
    • Hockey
    • MMA
    • Motor Racing
    • Olympics
    • Rugby League
    • Rugby Union
    • Soccer
    • Tennis

The types of wagers accepted by BetMGM cover all major forms of betting. Available markets for individual games number in the hundreds for high-profile matchups and include all or some of the following:

    • Point spreads
    • Moneylines
    • Point totals
    • Proposition wagers
    • Parlays
    • Same-game parlays (provided via a custom parlay-builder built into the betting interface)
    • Futures
    • Season props (number of wins, most home runs in a season, etc.)
    • In-play betting

    BetMGM Mobile Apps

BetMGM Sportsbook offers native apps for iOS and Android devices. iPhone and iPad users can download the BetMGM app straight from the App Store while Android users will have to visit BetMGM.com for a direct download link because the Google Play Store does not list gambling apps.

Bettors may also visit BetMGM.com from any mobile device to sign up, deposit and place wagers with no download needed.

As far as functionality is concerned, the BetMGM app has strong and weak points. Strong points include full access to all sports, integrated in-play betting and live stats built in to the platform. Weak points include navigation that is borderline confusing, particularly when back to the main menu from any individual matchup, and occasional slow-loads that result in accidental double taps.

Overall, the BetMGM app is easy to use but there is room for improvement. Colorado customers can get started by downloading the app from anywhere within state lines to sign up for an account and bet online.

    In-Play Betting Review

The in-play betting catalog at BetMGM is busy around the year; the volume of events with live odds on any given day is a definite strong point. Customers can log in most days and find dozens of events from around the world that are in progress and open for wagering.

Visiting the in-play page for an ongoing event brings up a menu of available wagers, current odds and live stats for that game. The variety of betting options is a strong point, but BetMGM lags behind some of the other major operators in terms of depth of stats.

More recently, BetMGM has improved the availability of live streaming video feeds for customers. Today, BetMGM customers can log in and watch live broadcasts for international soccer matches, major tennis events and other select events. While watching, customers can view the odds live and place in-play wagers without ever leaving the app.

Live sports streams are offered free to customers who have a funded account.

    Yahoo Sports Partnership

Yahoo Sports and BetMGM have a partnership in place that may change the way Colorado sports fans interact with Yahoo moving forward. The partnership was originally formed in 2019 and began in New Jersey, but press releases issued at the time said it would expand to other states with legal online sports betting.

In short, Yahoo Sports fans in Colorado may soon start seeing odds integrated into the homepage, scores, schedules and news stories. It calls itself “Yahoo Sportsbook,” but functions more like an integrated advertising deal. If readers click on a “bet now” button while browsing Yahoo, they are redirected to BetMGM Sports and prompted to download the app, sign up for an account and place that wager.

The Yahoo Sports and BetMGM partnership is not yet active in Colorado, but this is something to watch for. Yahoo Sports has a massive userbase between its daily readers and existing daily fantasy platform, and BetMGM signed on to the agreement largely to capitalize on that customer database.

    Customer Support

BetMGM offers 24/7 customer support via phone, live chat and e-mail. Customers may also use an extensive FAQ section to get the answers to most common questions.

The live support options are adequate, but one minor annoyance is the BetMGM help section forces users to select a question and read through an answer before revealing the support team’s contact information.

    BetMGM Colorado Deposit Methods

BetMGM accepts a larger than average range of deposit methods in other states and has brought the most popular of those to Colorado. Currently, BetMGM accepts the following methods and will likely launch additional options in the near future:

    • Credit and debit card: Customers can fund their betting accounts with Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
    • Electronic bank transfer: BetMGM accepts direct bank transfers that require nothing more than a bank account and some money to deposit. This method also serves as a recommended alternative for customers who bank with institutions that do not support credit/debit card deposits to betting sites.
    • PayNearMe: Privacy minded customers and those who would rather use cash can use PayNearMe to make a cash deposit without sharing any banking or card information. Selecting this method generates a pay slip that bettors can take to their nearest CVS, Dollar Tree and other similar locations to fund their accounts with physical currency. Deposits via this method are usually processed within minutes.

    Responsible Gambling

BetMGM is one of the more proactive operators on the issue of responsible gaming. By default, BetMGM displays regular problem gambling hotline notifications and displays a counter showing how long users have been logged in.

Additionally, customers can log in to set spending and time limits, initiate timeouts and self-exclude for set lengths of time or permanently. BetMGM also provides full access to win/loss statements and a personal history of responsible gaming limits.

    • Deposit limits: Customers may set daily, weekly and monthly deposit limits
    • Spending limits: Customers may set daily, weekly and monthly spending limits
    • Session limits: Customers may set daily session limits ranging from 1 hour to 23 hours
